ATTO ExpressPCI Configuration Tool v2.4 Read Me Notes 6/26/2003

ATTO ExpressPCI Configuration Tool helps you customize the settings of your ExpressPCI host adapter to maximize the performance of your storage connection. While the factory settings on your ExpressPCI host adapter should provide excellent performance for a wide range of applications, some specialized applications may benefit from modification of the adapter settings to tune the adapter for a specific performance range. The ExpressPCI Configuration Tool provides a tool to help you tune your host adapter. Additionally, this utility may also be used to verify the drivers and flash files currently in use and update the flash, as necessary.

Before installing and using this utility, please note that:

* ATTO requires Mac OS X version 10.2.4 (or later) and Mac OS X Java update v1.3.1 (or later) for proper operation. Please verify that you are using both of these components on your system. Use the Software Update application on your system to download and install the latest versions, if necessary.
* For proper host adapter operation, you should always use matching firmware and driver releases. ATTO strongly recommends verifying that driver and firmware are properly updated via the Device and Flash tabs in the application.

Installation Notes

* This application currently supports the following ExpressPCI host adapters: FCSW, FC 2600, FC 3300, FC 3305, FC3321, PSC, DC, UL3D, UL3S, UL4D and UL4S.

* ExpressPCI UL4D/UL4S Users Only: version 2.4 of the Configuration Tool is not compatible with previous versions of the ExpressPCI Ultra320 host adapter firmware or driver. Update your Ultra320 host adapter as follows:

1. After downloading v2.4 of the Configuration Tool from the ATTO web site (xepciconf240.tgz), uncompress the file by double clicking on the icon.
2. Double click on the installer icon.
3. During installation, a feature selection screen will appear prompting you to choose the components to install. Ensure that the "Application and Driver(s)" button is selected. This will install the v2.4 Configuration Tool and all ExpressPCI device drivers, including the v2.01 UL4D/UL4S drivers.
4. Reboot your system, this will ensure the latest drivers are being used.
5. Run the Configuration Tool by double clicking the application icon. Verify that the v2.01 driver has been loaded by expanding the information tree for your Ultra320 host adapter on the Device tab.
6. From the Flash tab, browse to the latest firmware (FlashBundle_2003_06_17.UL4X) and click on the Update button to update the adapter firmware. ** NOTE ** Depending on the state of your adapter, you may receive a message after clicking the Update button stating, "The card has been prepared for firmware updating, but the machine must be rebooted for the changes to take effect.
You need to repeat this process after rebooting to actually update the firmware." If you receive this message, reboot your system and repeat step 6.
7. Reboot your system so your adapter utilizes the new firmware. Your ExpressPCI Ultra320 host adapter has been updated and is ready for use.

* After updating ExpressPCI Ultra320 adapters to v2.01 firmware/driver, reverting to an older driver version requires that the v2.3 Configuration Tool be reinstalled since previous driver versions are not compatible with the v2.4 application release. To revert to an older driver version:

1. Uninstall the existing v2.4 Configuration Tool application using the uninstaller provided in the application's folder
2. Install the v2.3 Configuration Tool
3. Install the previous driver version (i.e. v1.01)
4. Reboot your system, this will ensure the appropriate drivers are being used.
5. Run the Configuration Tool and from the Flash tab, browse to the firmware (i.e. FlashBundle_101U.UL4X) and click on the Update button to update the adapter firmware. ** NOTE ** Depending on the state of your adapter, you may receive a message after clicking the Update button stating, "The card has been prepared for firmware updating, but the machine must be rebooted for the changes to take effect.
You need to repeat this process after rebooting to actually update the firmware." If you receive this message, reboot your system and repeat step 5.
6. Reboot your system so your adapter utilizes the new firmware.

* For Ultra320 host adapters, trying to update flash or NVRAM when the driver and application are mismatched (i.e. v2.4 Configuration Tool with v1.01 Ultra320 adapter driver) will generate an error message. This is commonly caused by not rebooting your system after installing the application and driver. Reboot your system and verify that the proper driver is installed using the Devices tab.

* Online help text is included in the application. Refer to the ExpressPCI Utilities manual, available on the CD-ROM included with your host adapter (some models only) or directly from the ATTO web site, for additional information.

* Flash files are also available in case you need to update the host adapter flash. These are not installed automatically as part of the application installation process. Once you have installed the ExpressPCI Configuration Tool, please read the online help to instruct you on how to use these flash files to update your hardware. These files are hardware specific, as follows:
* FlashBundle_231Uf2.2200
	ExpressPCI FCSW, ExpressPCI FC 2600
* FlashBundle_231Uf2.2300
